Security

  • What is Two-Factor Authentication for Hosted Nextcloud?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a way to protect your Hosted Nextcloud account from unauthorized access. It works by asking for two different authentication methods to verify of your identity. Usually the first factor is a password as you already have and the second a code.

  • Activate two-step authentication

You should always generate backup codes for 2FA. If your 2nd factor device is stolen or not working, you can use one of these codes to unlock your account. It effectively functions as a second backup method. To get the backup codes, go to your Personal Settings and look under Two-Factor Authentication Settings. Choose Generate backup codes.

    1. Login via the web browser in your Hosted Nextcloud account and search in your personal settings for "Security"
    2. Activeer hier uw Twee-factor authenticatie.
    3. Kopieer de back-upcodes naar een veilige plek zodat u die altijd kan terugvinden.
